Craftsmanship and advanced technology. A perfect combo that was used in the 90s to create the most extreme competition cars in history like the Porsche K8. An extreme model that serves as inspiration to achieve the ultimate expression of the Mondraker Crafty. A unique and unrepeatable Crafty, hand-painted in the original Gulf colors. A Crafty Unlimited with very few units produced worldwide. We present our latest collaboration with Gulf.

A collaboration that closes a circle of history, motorsport, and craftsmanship along with the rest of the collaborations with Gulf: Neat and Dusty X. Here comes the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition.

PORSCHE KREMER 8: THE INSPIRATION

The cockpit of a Porsche Kremer 8 is completely unlike the driver’s perch of a Crafty. Yes, carbon and aluminum may remind you of the origin of the raw materials, but the switches, lights, and labels that explain what each button does in the Kremer 8 reveal the craftsmanship of the 90s. Today we call it craftsmanship; back then it was called cutting-edge technology.

Like many racing cars, the Porsche Kremer 8 is an evolution of earlier models, all based on the Porsche 962, which had dominated the Group C racing category. When the Le Mans Prototype (LMP) category appeared, the LMP1/C90 class was created to allow older cars to compete against newer prototypes. This is where the Kremer brothers began modifying what was then the 962CK6, removing its roof and windshield, replacing the doors with a new body, and placing the driver in a central position. That model became known as the CK7 Spyder, but chassis 07-2 was modified a year later to become a Kremer K8 — an open-top prototype with 900 HP.

THE ORIGINAL GULF COLORS

Gulf’s association with motorsport was cemented in 1967, when a Ford GT40 Mark 1 raced at Daytona in Gulf Oil’s colors. Driven by Dick Thomson and Jackie Ickx, it was painted in Gulf Oil’s original darker blue and orange.

That GT40 became motorsport history. Painted in those colors, it was only seen that one time, because it was decided that a brighter, sportier appearance was needed for maximum visibility. Gulf had recently acquired the Wilshire Oil Company, which used a lighter, brighter blue, so the dark corporate Gulf blue and orange were transformed into a pastel blue and calendula orange that were more eye-catching.

These colors became some of the most recognizable competition colors of all time — if not the most iconic — in motorsport. In fact, they became so synonymous with the brand that Gulf became the first lubricant company to register its competition colors.

Those original Gulf Oil colors, applied to the Porsche Kremer K8 design, are the inspiration for the unique and unrepeatable Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition. An extreme model that serves as inspiration to achieve the ultimate expression of the Mondraker Crafty.

ASSEMBLY TAKEN TO THE EXTREME

There is no Crafty like this one. The Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition is built with our best Stealth Air Carbon and features the power and control of the new Bosch CX-R motor with up to 100 Nm of assistance, an 800 Wh removable battery and the Bosch Powermore 250 Wh option. It is also the only model in the entire Crafty 26 range that comes with Öhlins suspension: the Öhlins RXF 38 M.3 29” fork with 160 mm travel and the Öhlins TTX22M coil shock.

The Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition is based on our top-of-the-line Crafty RR SL model, with specific and key upgrades in its equipment. The DT Swiss HXC 1200 carbon wheels are a differentiating element, along with Trickstuff Maxima brakes fully machined from CNC 7075 aluminum, with 4-piston calipers and 203 mm rotors — finishes that evoke the blend of craftsmanship and technology found in the cockpit of the Porsche Kremer 8.

History, tradition, and the evolution of motorsport and mountain biking concentrated in the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition.

Crafty Carbon goes all-in on carbon. The entire range, including the exclusive Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition, features frames made from Mondraker’s most advanced carbon: Stealth Air Carbon.

The new Bosch CX-R motor fitted to the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition is 200 grams lighter than the CX version and is equipped with ceramic bearings, titanium axles, and a magnesium housing.

The Swedish suspension manufacturer raises the performance of Crafty’s suspension to meet the demanding standards of the motorsport world.

The DT 180 hubs, with Boost dimensions of 15×110 mm at the front and 12×148 mm at the rear, combined with Spline technology, achieve a perfect balance of stiffness, power transfer, absorption and high-speed stability.

Both the brake lever and caliper body, as well as the dual-piston component, are machined from 7075 aluminum, anodized through a unique CNC process with T6 treatment, placing them at a truly unique and distinctive aesthetic level. Their braking power, with 16 and 17 mm pistons, is fully up to the demands of a model as fast as the Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition.

The original Gulf Oil brand colors, in darker shades of blue and orange, as applied to the Porsche Kremer K8, are the inspiration behind the unique and unrepeatable Crafty Unlimited Gulf Edition. An extreme model that serves as the inspiration to achieve the ultimate expression of the Mondraker Crafty.
